Welcome to South Wimbledon Shorinji Kempo Dojo
Shorinji Kempo is a modern Japanese martial art (gendai budo) originating in ancient India and China. Shorinji Kempo moved from India to China with Bodhidhamma, from China to Japan with Doshin So in 1947, then from Japan to the UK with Sensei Mizuno in 1974.
South Wimbledon Shorinji Kempo Dojo is a member of the
British
Shorinji Kempo Federation (BSKF)
and the
International Kempo Association (IKA).

Self Defence
The main focus of Shorinji Kempo is self defence. Using physical principles and pressure points (kyusho jitsu) rather than brute strength, Shorinji Kempo is an ideal form of practical self defence, particularly against larger or stronger opponents, making it suitable for both men and women of all fitness levels.
Although the effectiveness of our self defense is paramount, also developing a healthy mind and body are essential aspects of Shorinji Kempo training and shouldn’t be neglected.
Philosophy
The physical and technical teachings of Shorinji Kempo are underpinned by a practical philosophy called kongo zen that aims to improve individuals through leadership skills, mutual cooperation and confidence building.
A healthy mind through exercise, meditation and philosophical study can save your life by steering you away from unnecessary conflicts and also relieving anxiety, worries and depression. Also learning to live a healthy, active, productive life will be of huge benefit for you and the lives of your friends and family.
